LEARN MORE ABOUT BOG OAK
By using the technology developed by our specialists, as the only (or one of the few) company in the world, we are able to dry swamp oak without the need to season it. At the same time, we obtain a material suitable for the production of floors, furniture and decorative items, whose strength and water resistance is comparable to that obtained by the most exclusive tropical species. To our best knowledge, we are the only company in the world offering black oak floors with widths of up to 35 cm.
RARER THAN DIAMONDS
Black oak is one of the rarest raw materials in the world, it is estimated that there is less of it on our planet than diamond. There are fewer and fewer places in the world that have not yet been reached by civilization, and there are very few that have remained untouched for thousands of years. Therefore, the sites of marsh wood are extremely rare, and access to them is difficult, and often impossible. One of the oldest known clusters is located in the Croatian valley of the Skava River, where logs as old as 8290 years were mined. Slightly younger specimens end up in our studio, our record holder is over 6200 years old. In order to verify the age, we send the samples to the laboratory, where it is determined by radiocarbon dating.
MARSH OAK
Black oak is not really a species of wood, but rather a term for trees that, due to their very long stay in lakes, rivers or peat bogs, acquire completely new properties.
DEADLY EXCLUSIVE
Due to their scarce occurrence and value, in the times of Tsarist Russia, possession of objects made of black oak was prohibited under the penalty of death. The only ones entitled to possess such items were members of the royal family. Fortunately, those times are behind us and access to this mysterious raw material is already a bit easier.
SEE AND INSTALLATION
All elements of the staircase are made of natural black oak. The logs used for the design were radiocarbonated and their age was set at 4,500 to 6,000 years.
NATURAL, ANCIENT TREASURE
The extremely low oxygen content protects the wood from normal decomposition, while the peat below it provides acidic conditions in which iron salts and other minerals react with tannins in the wood, gradually giving it a distinct dark brown to almost black color. Due to its inaccessibility and extremely difficult to process structure, black oak is probably the rarest type of wood in the production of furniture and floors. However, thanks to our proprietary drying method, as one of the few companies in the world, we specialize in the production of all kinds of products from this amazing material.
